Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden

Join us for lunch and presentation by "The Hibiscus Lady" Jill Coryell

Our guest speaker, Jill Coryell, is a leader in the field of hybridizing native hibiscus here in the islands.  Jill is the owner of the one and one-half acre Hibiscus Lady Nursery in Waialua.  A small portion of the nursery is certified by the State of Hawai'i to ship plants grown there to be shipped to the U.S. Mainland.  Another section is reserved for plants available for O'ahu customers.  A third area is reserved for new hybrids awaiting their first blooms.  With a few exception for plants of historic value, the hibiscus plants have been created through cross pollination, and then used for cuttings taken off of the original hybrid.  None are grafted or air layered, because Jill feels this "own root" method created the hardiest and healthiest plants.  Come hear the fascinating story about the history and legacy of hibiscus hybridization in Hawaii and see the intricate process.

Cost: $20.00
